In Acanceh (Deer’s bellow) one finds architectonic monuments like the Ex - convent and Temple of the Vi rgin of Guadalupe; the Temple of Our Lady of the Natividad, constructed in the XVI century; and archaeological monuments like Canicab, Poxilá and Ekmul. It is located 26 km from Merida.

Cuzamá

Cuzamá (Water Swallow) is known by its cenotes; you can begin with a day tour to visit Chelentún. It has cement stairs and a handrail. The excursion continues to the Chansinic’che cenote, where you will find a opening in the ground with rail truk stairs. The last cenote is Bolonchoojol, of crystalline water.

From the 1st to the 8th of September the traditional celebration in honor of the Natividad of the Virgin Mary is held.

Río Lagartos

In Rio Lagartos (Natural Paradise of the Mayan world) you will be able to take strolls by the natural reserve to observe the flamingos, or hire boat transportation towards the islets to spend a day of relaxation and calm. You can visit the town and eat in its restaurants, besides acquiring crafts made with coconut and shell products.

Santiago Apostle

From the 20th to the 25th of July.
The whole town wears ternos (three-piece suits) to crown the Plaza de Toros and begin the fair; at the end they go look for the ceibo.

San Felipe

San Felipe (Refuge of the birds) offers a beautiful natural panorama. Framed in a traditional fishermen’s town, it has restaurants, hotels, cabins and even a small entertainment center. The motorboat rides are particularly beautiful at dusk.

Tecoh

Tecoh (Echoes of history) holds in its foundations history itself. Visit the convent constructed over a Mayan pyramid where the stones of the building are wrought with Mayan inscriptions. The baroque atrium is one of most complex and beautiful of the state. Walk around town and observe the fusion of the colonial with the contemporary. Visit the Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, that offers a thematic route, in which you will be able to witness a traditional day at an hacienda, such as it was 100 years ago.
You can swim in its two cenotes and enjoy a delicious meal at its restaurant.

Temozón

Temozón (Cradle of the Balam). Visit the Temple of San Roman, constructed during colonial times (probably in the XVIII century), the Temple of San Antonio de Padua and the Municipal Palace.

Go into Ek-Balam, an impressive archaeological zone with remarkable remains of Mayan architecture. Located in the jungle, you will be able to visit the surroundings of this Mayan city. It has a tourist inn with all the services.

Tixkokob

Tixkokob (The old kingdom of Aké) is a city in the surroundings of what was the empire of Aké, which during centuries dominated the northern region of the state. You can visit the archaeological site of Aké and appreciate its castle-like constructions. Tixkokob, like other municipalities in the state, has a peculiar and delicious gastronomy. Enjoy dishes such as lime soup, pibil chicken and pibil cochinita. It stands out for making hammocks of great quality, which are very easy to find in the municipal market or around the main plaza.

Tizimín

Other sites of interest for the visitor are the Ex-convent and Parish of the Santos Reyes, XVII century; ex-convent and Temple of San Francisco, XVI century. They archaeological ruins of Dzonot, the Palmar, Chunhuele, Xlacab, Panaba, Haltunchen and Xuencal stand out.

Visit the colonial haciendas in the capital of the municipality. Here you will find expert craftsmen in the preparation of huipiles, hemp-cast hammocks and pottery. Taste the delicious dishes of traditional Mayan cuisine, prepared with corn flour, pork meat, chicken and deer, accompanied by sharp sauces made with habanero chili peppers and max. The main ones are: beans with pork, chaya with egg, hen stew, stuffed cheese, salbutes, panuchos, deer pipian, papadzules, longaniza, pibil cochinita, joroches, mucbil chicken, pimes and tamales.
